Supanova

Almost forgot again, was meant to post earlier about supanova.

I had not been to a supanova before and had only intended on going because Colin Morgan who plays Merlin in the Chanel ten TV show The Adventures of Merlin was going to be there. Though I had intended to get a photo and/or autograph from him the lines to do so put me off. The lines to just get a ticket to get the photo with him was incredibly long. So I passed on getting my photo or autograph and settled with just getting a glimpse of him from a far.

Instead of waiting around for any other celebrity, which there were a few, I decided to look around all the stands and that was when I found the dymocks stand. Needless to say I left with more books then I had intended to. Especially given that I had told myself I wasn't going to buy any at all haha. While waiting to get my books signed (the authors of the books I had bought were there so I figured I may as get them signed while I was there) I read through the program and found a pair of seminars that would be useful.

The first of the seminars, Steps to Publication, was given by authors Marianne De Pierres and Rowena Cory Daniells. This one was very useful. I learnt a great deal on the process of publication and the various methods of writing.

Another useful thing to come out of that seminar was I actually found out about the vision writers group discussion list and have since joined it. I thought that actually joining a writers group would actually provide the much needed motivation boost to get some writing done so that I can move forward with my writing.

The other seminar was An Introduction to Paranormal, given by Tracey O'Hara and Keri Arthur. This was also in interesting discussion. Interesting to learn how varied the definitions of what consitutes paranormal literature.

All in all was a good day. learnt a lot and got the motivation needed to get back into writing on a more regular basis.

Taking stock

So this past week I have not had the energy to do any writing or job hunting, so not a great has happened on those fronts. Instead  I have sat around and attempted to bring some type of order to my writing area and the number of stories.

After cleaning through the numerous usb's, cd's and micro usb's etc, I have located the main files of my writing and have realised I have more unfinished pieces then I originally thought. In total there are 8 pieces where I have started and then stopped after a few pages. After going through and seeing how much had been written I have had to be ruthless and decide which pieces must get pushed to the back burner for the moment and which will get the attention necessary to finish them in the near future. This was not an easy task at all but I have managed to keep two pieces at the front and file the remainder away in a folder named on the backburner.

So for the remainder of the week I will be focusing on these two pieces in a hope to get them moved along.

So until next week

RIP Anne McCaffrey 1926-2011

Today when I checked my emails on my phone I was surprised to see the topic of a discussion board post. The discussion board for the vision writers group were about the death of Anne McCaffrey. Shocked I instantly went to my laptop and googled Anne McCaffrey and sure enough I stumbled upon an obituary for her.

According to the Random House site, she died shortly after having a stroke on the 21st of November 2011.

I have only read a few of the Pern series but they are wickardly awesome and completely addictive. I look forward to collecting and reading the rest of the Pern series.

An Update (About time I know)

I figured that it was about time I updated this blog.

So not much has changed since last year, though I have completed my masters degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice (Coursework). Since graduating I have embarked on the adventure of job hunting, although to date without much luck unfortunatly.

So the goal of the blog has changed only slightly. I will still put forward posts of my opinions on various topics. But will also follow my progess as I write my first full length book and the eventual process of getting it published. The blog will also feature my attempts to find a full time job using my degree.

I figured, since I was updating my blog I should post an updated picture of my office.

Until next time
